Terrifically tasty gluten-free dining in Halifax

Terrifically tasty gluten-free dining in Halifax

Ela! Greek Taverna will make you feel like you’re dining on a Greek terrace at night. The place is always busy, even at odd hours, and has a fun, lively atmosphere. At Ela!, you’ll experience great service with waiters who are highly knowledgeable about their gluten-free options. For a special treat, try the gluten-free pita and house-made dip, souvlaki, pasta and more!

Opa! minded: Standout Greek food across HRM

Opa! minded: Standout Greek food across HRM

Ela! was a longtime fixture on Argyle Street under its original name of Opa! before it set up at Bayer's Lake (and Dartmouth Crossing, if you're on that side of the harbour). The menu uses locally sourced ingredients in classically Greek ways. Try the house-made loukaniko, a sausage that literally dates from the classical era. The seafood and rotisserie lamb are also standouts and well worth a trek out into big-box shopping country. This is upscale Greek, with enough wood-and-stone gravitas to overcome its warehouse-style location.

Bring your own wine restaurants in Halifax

Bring your own wine restaurants in Halifax

If you find yourself in Bayers Lake, look for the inviting, white-walled space of Ela! With its beautiful decor of artificial foliage, you can almost imagine you're on Santorini. The locally sourced food is fresh and delicious – the lamb penne in a red wine peppercorn cream sauce is juicy and tender. Pay the $20 corkage fee, and you can bring in your own bottle to go with it.
