The messiest, juiciest burgers in Victoria

Everyone loves a good burger. But what makes a burger great? Is it the crispiness of the bacon? Is it the soft sweetness of the toasted bun? Or does it come down to how far the juice runs past your elbow? Whether you’re into chicken, beef, bison, salmon, or veggie, this list will help you find your perfect burger.

A juicy gourmet burger and a pint of local craft beer. Life doesn’t get much better than that! Victoria’s best craft beers can be found here, along with one of the only fried oyster burgers in the city. Irish Times Pub

3
1200 Government St, Victoria, BC V8W 1Y3

Situated in the heart of downtown in historic Bastion Square, the Irish Times strives to be the most authentic Irish pub in Victoria. They have live Celtic music seven nights a week, they serve traditional Irish fare, and it’s one of only three places in town you can get imported Irish stout. Grab yourself a Guinness, pair it with their unbelievable Lamb Burger, and sing along with one of their featured bands. A night here is like taking a trip to Ireland without the pricey airfare.

Spinnakers Brewpub & Guest House Restaurant

4
308 Catherine St, Victoria, BC V9A 3S8

Although they only have three burgers on their menu, Victoria’s only gastro brewpub has spent a lot of time perfecting them. Their vegetarian BC Beet & Lentil Burger featuring spicy sprouts, malt vinegar pickled cabbage, and tzatziki rivals their meaty Brewpub Burger. And don’t even get us started on the Braised Pulled Pork Sandwich with Cascadia dark ale BBQ sauce and aioli – we’re drooling just thinking about it! Grab yourself one of their own superb craft beers and just try to decide between the three. We dare you.

Canoe Brewpub

5
450 Swift St, Victoria, BC V8W 1S3

Located at the far end of Victoria’s Chinatown, Canoe is famous for their stunning marina views, their handcrafted beer, and their innovative dishes. Their Canoe Burger Deluxe is one of the best bacon and cheddar burgers anywhere in the city. Two words: maple bacon. Can’t eat meat? Their amazing Veggie Burger is made in house and features goat cheese, mint, and sweet grilled zucchini. Bring the whole family and enjoy the spectacular scenery on the patio.

Crooked Goose Bistro

6
4136 Wilkinson Rd, Victoria, BC V8Z 5A7

This is one of those places you don’t really hear about unless you know someone who has been there. It’s a shame, because the Crooked Goose has some of the messiest, juiciest, downright sinful burgers in Victoria. Their Poor Little Piggy Burger is the best thing on the menu – a locally sourced pork patty topped with smoky slow-braised pulled pork, thick, meaty bacon, and aged cheddar cheese. Drooling yet? Go all out and get it with their classic poutine. It’s worth the heart attack.

Fatburger

7
1209 Douglas St, Victoria, BC V8W 2E7

Searching for that elusive fast food burger that masquerades as gourmet? Look no further than Fatburger. They’re pushing out some amazing fast eats that remind you of something you can order from a sit-down restaurant. These burgers are juicy, messy, and greasy in the best kind of way. Don’t even think about ordering a soda, because Fatburger’s shakes are super thick, super creamy, and super delish.

My Chosen Cafe

8
4492 Happy Valley Rd, Victoria, BC V9C 3Z3

Yes, it seems far, but the drive out to Metchosin will be totally worth it once you sink your teeth into one of their juicy western style burgers. Their beef and chicken burger toppings are outstanding and unique. Like heat? Try their Screamin’ Beef Burger – they dip the entire patty in hot sauce and cover it with banana peppers. Looking for something a little out of the box? You can’t go wrong with their Reuby burger, which can best be described as the love-child of a burger and a Reuben sandwich.

Rebar

9
50 Bastion Sq, Victoria, BC V8W 1J2

Dare we say these are the best vegetarian burgers in Victoria? If you love housemade veggie burgers, you can’t get one any better than Rebar’s Almond Burger. The patty is made from almonds and various vegetables, then it’s grilled to perfection, topped with tomato, lettuce, some fresh salsa, Dijon mustard, and then served to you on a soft multigrain bun. Like mushrooms on your burger? Rebar also has a Swiss cheese and mushroom variation of their classic burger that’s like something out of a dream.

Red Robin

10
800 Tolmie Ave, Victoria, BC V8X 3W4

This chain restaurant made it onto the list for obvious reasons – they have ‘gourmet burgers’ in their name! Red Robin knows how to do up a burger right. They’ve got the juicy patty part down pat, and they get points for having over 25 different burgers to choose from! That’s a lot of choice. Let us help you out. Beef burgers don’t get much better than their Guacamole Bacon Burger. If you’re a chicken burger fan, you definitely need to try their Whiskey River BBQ Chicken Burger. Finally, their Wild Pacific Salmon Burger is a favourite of fish fiends.

Ambience. Excellent food. Great service. These are the top three things everyone looks for in an ideal date night restaurant. A noisy, overcrowded dive bar with bad food and worse service doesn’t really encourage romantic feelings. Thankfully, this list has you covered – think of it as your secret wing man.
Do you find yourself craving truffles and creams more than once a day? Are you known for popping out during lunch break to grab a chocolate bar? Then you, my friend, may be a chocoholic. Don’t worry, though! Victoria has many shops willing to satisfy your desires, and we’ve compiled them all into this handy list.
Victoria has long been known as the “California of Canada” – while the rest of the country is busy trudging through the snow, we’re out here donning flip flops and complaining of the heat. It makes sense, therefore, that we would have plenty of great ice cream shops. These are just a few of the places where Victorians go to grab a cone and beat the heat.
